Vehicle Description

This is the real deal. A numbers-matching 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible wearing one of the most iconic color combinations ever to roll off the Pontiac line — jet black over a crisp white interior — and powered by the legendary 389ci V8 topped with the factory Tri-Power three two-barrel carburetor setup.

The 389 Tri-Power is the heart and soul of the first-generation GTO, and this example makes no apologies. The progressive throttle linkage delivers a linear surge of torque that builds into the kind of full-throttle roar that made the Goat famous. It pulls hard, sounds magnificent, and drives exactly as Pontiac's engineers intended.

At 79,000 original miles, this GTO presents in concours condition throughout. The black lacquer shows deep, mirror-like reflections with no waviness, orange peel, or fading. The white convertible interior is immaculate — bucket seats, door panels, and carpet show no cracking, staining, or wear. The convertible top operates smoothly and seals tight, with no fraying at the bows.

Under the hood, the engine bay is detailed to show-quality standards: correct date-coded components, factory-correct wiring, and period-accurate finishes on every bracket and hose. The undercarriage is equally impressive — clean frame rails, original floor pans, and no evidence of rust, rot, or hidden repairs.

This GTO is not a driver that needs work or a project hiding behind fresh paint. It is a fully sorted, turn-key concours machine ready for the show field, the Pontiac–Oakland Club meet, or a heated, air-conditioned garage where it belongs.

Ownership History

This GTO was made in the first week of December 1964. The in service (delivery) date was January 8th, 1965 to Harold and Avi
Judd. The selling dealer was Santa Clara Pontiac and the original California Plate number was MJ 868
The car was bought from Avis Judd, after the death of Harold Judd, by Phil Andersch on May 18, 1991.
The car was bought from Phil Andersch by Bill and Steve Root on August 23rd, 1995. Who use the car as an every day driver.

Car History

This GTO has been certified by the Pontiac Historical Society as an original number matching Tri-power, 4 Speed car through the
build sheets. Additional proof is obtained from the "Owners Plate" provided by the selling dealer to the original owner. This
plate lists the VIN and Engine numbers. All numbers for the engine and transmission match to the build sheets and the Owner's Plate.

The car was built in the Fremont Factory of California, and was the 5,114th GTO made for 1965. Hurst had not as yet
completed it's negotiations with Pontiac for the name Hurst to be placed on the shifter, and the car was made so early in the production
year it does have a 1964 Rust Sifter as original equipment.

The car is original with exception to the carpet and carpet mats. The dash has been painted, but the wood, the padded dash, all instruments and gauges are all original. The exterior of the car is entirely original. The stainless steel of the car is entirely original but has been polished and any dents removed. All the emblems are original but repainted. The bumpers and headlight trim are original, but re-chromed. The car has been repainted black 3 times during in its life.
