Forty years after the debut of the original GT500, Ford once again teamed up with legendary Mustang tuner Carroll Shelby Edmunds to birth this modern icon.
This isn't just a car — it's a piece of American automotive history, made even more extraordinary by Shelby's personal autograph.

At the heart of the GT500 is a supercharged 5.4-liter, 32-valve V8 with dual overhead cams, producing 500 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 480 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm, capable of 0–60 mph runs in the low four-second range. That peak power is delivered through an intercooled Roots-type supercharger adding 8.5 pounds of boost, fed by high-flow cylinder heads borrowed from the exotic Ford GT.

SVT engineers retuned the shocks, springs, and stabilizer bars, with the 3-link Panhard rod rear suspension derived from Ford Racing's Mustang FR500C competition car. The wheels are stout 18-inch alloys wearing 45-series front and 40-series rear performance tires.

Up front, the Shelby shows off a deeper fascia with blacked-out grilles and a functional air splitter, while the pumped-up hood features functional heat extractors near the leading edge. The tail stands tall with a vintage-style ducktail spoiler, and Shelby and Cobra badges are found throughout — including one that evokes the original's iconic gas cap.

Interior & Features

The leather seats offer increased lateral support for spirited driving and feature embossed Cobra logos. MotorWeek Standard equipment includes power mirrors, a 500-watt sound system with MP3 player and six-disc CD changer, front and front-side airbags, power windows, cruise control, keyless entry, a power driver's seat, and air conditioning.
